When I discovered Evernote it was a game changer for me. While I still work out of a regular notebook and keep handwritten lists and notes, Evernote gave me the ability to save and organize those notes. I use the tag system and multiple notebooks to help keep things organized and able to be searched back later. I loved Evernote so much that I paid for the subscription service. But, there are integration issues that are causing some real problems. The whole point of using Evernote or other productivity software is not having to use multiple platforms. Evernote still does not allow me to do the following things:

  1. Integrations with Windows/Outlook- I know they have added the ability to pair up with GMail and to use its calendar information. But, everyone I know uses outlook. Even if it is just because that is what work dictates you use. If they could integrate that and pull over dates and to-do items, it would be a huge benefit.
  2. The home screen is not intuitive enough. Yes you can add certain wigets and move items around but I find myself putting things in the widgets that I don’t use. I need to be able to have a list of items I am going to use on my first page.
  3. To do list issues- when Evernote came out with the new to do list update and allowed you to add a to do list to items, I was pumped! After using it though, I quickly determined that pinning notes made it harder to use. Further, it was hard to have multiple lists if you divide up by categories such as work, personal, etc.

I do want to say that I love the software. Evernote is really good at certain things:

  1. Create and edit notes: Evernote allows you to create and edit notes, which can include text, images, audio recordings, and more.
  2. Organize notes with notebooks and tags: You can organize your notes into notebooks and assign tags to them to help you find them later.
  3. Search for notes: Evernote has a powerful search feature that allows you to find specific notes quickly and easily, even within images and PDFs.
  4. Save web pages and articles: Evernote has a web clipper that allows you to save web pages and articles for later reading and reference.
  5. Collaborate with others: You can share notes and notebooks with others, making it easy to collaborate on projects or share information with a team.
  6. Set reminders: Evernote allows you to set reminders for notes, which can be helpful for tasks or deadlines.
  7. Use templates: Evernote has a variety of templates that you can use for things like to-do lists, meeting notes, and project plans.
  8. Store and organize business cards: Evernote’s business card scanner allows you to scan and store business cards, and you can also add notes and tags to them for easy reference.
  9. Create and manage tasks: Evernote can be used to create and manage tasks and to-do lists, and you can also set reminders for them.

10. Tax time: I use Evernote regularly to snap receipts and other items and save them for next years tax return and deductions. It has made life a lot easier.

11. Memories: When I get a card in the mail, a letter from a friend or even a list of Christmas gifts, I save these all in an Evernote folder. I have a ton of memorabilia saved there. Including my grandfathers obituary, important pictures etc.

Reason’s to try Evernote:

  1. Capture information from any device: Evernote can be used on a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers, and information can be easily captured from any of these devices.
  2. Organize information in a flexible way: Evernote allows you to create and organize notes in notebooks and tags, and search for information across all your notes.
  3. Collaborate with others: Evernote makes it easy to share notes and notebooks with others, allowing for collaborative work and easy access to shared information.
  4. Synchronize across devices: Evernote automatically synchronizes your notes across all your devices, ensuring that you have access to your information wherever you are.
  5. Use multiple media types: Evernote allows you to store a variety of media types, including text, images, audio, and web clippings, making it a versatile tool for managing all kinds of information.
  6. Powerful search capabilities: Evernote’s search feature allows you to find specific notes and information quickly and easily, even within images and PDFs.
